His sister is taking care of everything. Press release is coming later today. He’s now home ok, but he’s in need of surgery which you can help him pay it. I’ll post if there are any more updates. Hip Hop is so beautiful… Thanks to everyone for the love… Kool Herc is a trending topic!
Last friday guests on Preems Live From HQ were Naughty By Nature. They asked in public to DJ Premier if he wants to produce a song for their upcoming album “Anthem Inc”. After more than 20 years in this genre, it looks like both legends finally cross paths and preparing for a collabo. “Anthem Inc” should be released this year. To end they did a freestyle live on the radio over a DJ Premier beat, enjoy:
The father of hip hop Clive Campbell also known as DJ kool Herc (55) is in the hospital with a bad health condition. That’s what DJ Premier said on this week Live From HQ. It’s doesn’t look positive as Kool Herc doesn’t have a health insurance and the billings go higher and higher. No more details were given but he is in need of some financial help as soon as possible. We at DJPremierBlog.com pray for the best…
If you are willing to give financial support for DJ Kool Herc in this difficult time but you don’t know how, mail me (gimantalon) at gim[at]djpremierblog.com and I’ll keep you updated on any details possible.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! People should know that some cuts aren’t produced by DJ Premier while many people say it is. Here’s a compilation I made of the most mistaken DJ Premier produced tracks… In the 90s you couldn’t share your music so easy and with many people like with internet, so people used to press bootlegs with their songs on it. To look it more interesting they wrote “DJ Premier Presents” or “Produced by DJ Premier” so it would sell more while Preem nothing had to do with it. Some bootlegs even went collector items… So note that some tracks are not the best quality and ripped from vinyl, but I assure you it’s the best quality out on the internet. Others are just mistaken a lot on the world wide web because somebody wrote it was produced by DJ Premier and everybody copied it. On a sidenote, most of the tracks are even banging HARD. Some really have that DJ Premier sound, so that’s cool either way. Happy leeching!!

A project started by Guru’s nephew Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff called “The X Label” are hooking up with Listen Clothing brand to create this ultra dope Guru T-Shirt. Supporting Guru’s legacy Justin already brought out the Gang Starr Custom Converse All-Star shoe. And the last dope Guru T-Shirt created was from Stickup Kids, which I still wear every month. But I couldn’t live with myself without having one of this tee. The first one is the cover of the first Guru demo tape ever when he called himself “Keithy E.”, damn. Listen comes always with quality… Soon to be released.
What do we have here? Aaaaah yes, a beat specially made for Kanye West when he requested some for his “Dark Twisted Fantasy” album. Sad he never used is though… Later on it was also given to Bun B, but also he didn’t record on it… That’s the history behind it, now it’s known as the “JJ Beat”. Btw: another beat that Kanye West didn’t used went to Bumpy Knuckles for the collabo album “The Kolexion”. Masterpiece, listen up:
Now we can only hope Jay-Z pick some Premo beats for his collabo album!
EDIT: You have to know the beat was rejected because Kanye West changed the direction of his album… this was created when everybody thought he was going to make that “Boom Bap” album.
Dope interview with Works of Mart signed producer MoSS. For those who don’t know yet, Works of Mart is Preems label to sign producers. For now, only Gemcrates and MoSS are signed. Now you learn Canadian dude MoSS a lil better!
Something left fielded I uploaded. A line-in recorded mix by DJ Premier before the Gang Starr performance in Montreal (back in 2003). Everybody knows by now DJ Premier is a big Rock & New Wave lover, but you can’t see him much mixing that genre. I love rock too, grew up on rapcore and 90s punk myself, but now not anymore. By getting older you learn to appreciate older music…
