Big Daddy Kane Says “28 Bars Of Kane” Reaction Inspired Upcoming Album With DJ Premier

Big Daddy Kane says the Team Jordan-commissioned “28 Bars Of Kane” with DJ Premier caused the 20-year collaborators to want to do a whole album together.

In late January, Big Daddy Kane released “28 Bars Of Kane” as part of the Nike/Jordan XX8 song series. Produced by Gang Starr’s DJ Premier, the effort was the latest in almost 19 years of collaborative history dating back to 1994’s “Show & Prove” (featuring Jay-Z, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Shyheim, Sauce Money and Scoob Lover) from Daddy’s Home. Speaking with HipHopDX last week, Kane explained the significance of the new recordings. “To get with [DJ Premier] again and do somethin’ again was beautiful.”

Kane continued, revealing that the fan response to the sponsored song encouraged the pair to consider a greater union. “Matter of fact, after [“28 Bars Of Kane”] got out and we saw how much people was tweeting, and talkin’ about it on Facebook, he hollered back at me and said, ‘Yo, after everything dies down with the [Las Supper Back To The Future] project, we need to do an album together.’ I said, ‘Let’s make it happen.'” According to Kane, “That’s something that’s gonna be in the works for later on this year.” At this time, Kane has not provided a title for the project.

The pair have worked sporadically since 1994, also making “Any Type Of Way,” a single in the early 2000s. Additionally, Kane appeared on Premier-produced songs by Big L and Just-Ice. Kane championed the producer’s sound in saying, “Premo is one of those producers that I’ve always had a lot of respect for. I’ve always thought that he’s just extremely talented. More importantly, he’s one of those dudes that just sticks to his formula, like if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

On March 26th, Big Daddy Kane’s Soul/R&B project by Las Supper, Back To The Future will release.

Scarface Says DJ Premier Still Owes Him A Beat

During an interview Scarface also recalled linking up with Guru and DJ Premier on the song “Betrayal” from Gang Starr’s 1998 album Moment of Truth. According to the Houston emcee, he contributed his verse in exchange for a Premo beat, but the H-Town producer has yet to lace him with production.

They sent me a verse, and a beat for me to write my part on,” he said. “I did it on strength but by the end of the day, Premier still owed me a beat. He still owes me a beat 20 years later. And every time I talked to him he’ll be like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I didn’t forget about you.’ Bullshit, you forgot about me. That’s my boy though, that’s my partner. H-Town native.

In addition to his collaborative effort with Beanie Sigel, Scarface is also working on his 12th solo album Rooted. Who knows!

Compton’s Most Wanted Reunite On DJ Premier Produced Track “Last Ones Left”

Good news for all the West Coast fans as Comptons Most Wanted will be reunited after 7(?) years on one track of MC Eiht’s long awaited and anticipated album “Which Way Iz West”. To top all that news, that track will be produced by DJ Premier and is named “Last Ones Left”. The last official album of the legendary crew from Compton was released in 2006 (Music to Gang Bang). Like most of us knows, DJ Premier already worked in the past with CMW when he did the b-side remix for “Def Wish II” in 1992. An instant classic for vinyl collectors! With that note there was also more details released on MC Eiht’s new album. Not only this reunion will be produced by DJ Premier, but he will handle the production of 4 more other tracks on the album with one featuring Bumpy Knuckles. The last info update said “Which Way Iz West” will be released in September ’13, lets hope…

btw… the next M.O.P. album will be fully produced by DJ Premier!

Best DJ Premier Beat of 2012 is…

Whoohaa, we have a new winner in our small little own DJ Premier awards!! If you compare the vote number with last year you see we had less votes, but I don’t care about that. All I know is that we still had 2,454 votes!! I have to thank my real fans for that. And with no further yip yap, the best DJ Premier Beat of 2012 is:

Congrats to the whole La Coka Nostra clique, they smashed the vote by collecting 28% (aka 675votes) of the votes, what a beat!! What sad is… is that just like last year, this jam didn’t have a vinyl release. So it official I guess… singles on vinyl are death. Here are the full results:

So what’s your opinion? My vote went out to the Nas remix, the way he chopped up that Andraé Crouch sample… BANANAS!! What I noticed is that in 2012 no European artist released a DJ Premier collabo, while two years ago a European artist won the vote… But 2013 will change that, that’s a fact. Damn… with Joey Bada$$ as the first beat in 2013 I can’t wait what Premo has more to offer, lets go!!

Previous winners:
2011 winner: You by Evidence (22%)
2010 winner: Première Salve by Soulkast (20%)
2009 winner: Rap Addiction by Blaq Poet (17%)
2008 winner: Say Goodnight by Reks (30%)

Once again, thanks to all the voters, you were with a lot! And congratulations to La Coka Nostra with the win! AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE !! 2k13 will bring us a lot of fresh new Premo beats!!! End of DJ Premier Blog Awards.

Closure Note From DJ Premier:

Just in case y’all forgot, I base my list on:

1) Beats selection
2) Lyrics and content that make sense
3) Flows and wordplay and your voice
4) I don’t care how many records you sold and how much your record was played on commercial radio, I live hip hop culture and I respect my pioneers that allowed me to do hip hop as a career
5) Concepts and overall body of making a full LP including the sequence of how your LP flows is so important when I pop it in my sound system

I still judge listening to music on either a boom box or driving in my ride, no iPods and shit. I stick to tradition of how hip hop was played when it made an impact on my life.

As I say every year, if you don’t like my list, fuck it make your own!

One note I will make: I meant to list the Game’s “Jesus Piece” in my list and it was an oversight so I won’t change this list because of my mistake. I still wanted to make a note of it being that I liked his album and I’m still bumpin it in the ride.

Let the hate begin…
