Closure Note From DJ Premier:

For all of you dumbfucks that are late or not hip to my yearly list, this is my own list of what I was bumpin’ for my enjoyment in 2011… Even though there were so fuckin’ many LPs that came out, I wish we had time to do Top 40 but fuck that… So if you don’t like my list, make your own… I ain’t mad atcha… Hate it or love it, I don’t give a fuuuuuck !!!

Note for DJ Premier for ’09

I judge my list based on dope beats, dope rhymes, scratchin’ and cutting, creativity, uniqueness, originality, and overall packaging of the product’s integrity. I don’t care if you sold a million copies, that does not make it dope. I went through more than 60 LP’s released in ’09 on major and indie labels over and over to get it as close as i possible could to being satisfied with the list so here it is along with the list.

Best DJ Premier Beat of 2011 is…

Yesss, I’m so full of joy. The best DJ Premier beat of 2011 is decided thanks to 4,098 (!!) Premo fans to be exact. That’s a lot more votes in compare with last year… damn this blog is growing. Can’t thank the people who vote enough. And with no further yip yap, the best DJ Premier Beat of 2011 is with no surprise:

Evidence won the DJ Premier Blog Awards like a boss, 22% aka 912 votes of all voters voted for him. If you know we never had a list to vote for that big it’s really impressive. Too bad this single never had a wax release. We may still love vinyl, but it’s dying for real. Here’s the full list people:

What do ya’ll think? The funny thing is, I voted for Jump Up (Remix)… I think that instrumental is really underrated, I funked with that a lot in 2011. It was choosing between Fastlane or Jump Up (Remix). Last year an European artist won, now the first European artist is Shock & Amaze by Prop Dylan on the fourth place, also congrats to him! Looking forward to hear the best beat of 2012!!

Previous winners:
2010 winner: Première Salve by Soulkast (20%)
2009 winner: Rap Addiction by Blaq Poet (17%)
2008 winner: Say Goodnight by Reks (30%)

Once again, thanks to all the voters, you were with a lot! And congratulations to Evidence with the win! AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE !! 2k12 will bring us a lot of fresh new Premo beats!!! End of DJ Premier Blog Awards.

The X Label Releasing Guru’s First Demo Tape (1986)

The X Label brings to you a limited edition recreation of Guru’s (MC Keithy E) Demo Cassette Tape. This recreation of Guru’s demo cassette tape consist of the exact image Keithy E made for the cover, Keithy E’s handwriting of the songs on the tape, and the actual songs from the demo. Pop it in your vintage boombox to listen to Guru’s never before-heard songs or put it on a mantle and keep it as an amazing collectors item that was a part of the foundation of Guru’s hip hop legacy. Tape info: In 1986 MC Keithy E (now known as GURU) completed a demo tape that featured the early members of Gang Starr; DJ Mikey Dee and Damo D (Beat Box). The tape that was recorded at “Radio One” studios in Boston, includes multiple racks featuring the young Guru rhyming and displaying his singing voice over a bare drum machine. The demo tape was clearly made and sent directly to Magnus Johnstone (a local DJ/Radio Host in Guru’s hometown of Boston) for his show. Both the demo tape’s cover and the actual tape are labeled “for Magnus”. Magnus Johnstone founded Lecco’s Lemma radio show in 1985. It was a groundbreaking hip-hop radio show, the first of its kind in Boston and one of the only rap radio shows in the world at that time. What made it even more revolutionary for the emerging Boston hip-hop scene was that Magnus encouraged local rap groups to come down to the station and perform on the air. Since the show was Boston’s outlet for up and coming hip hop artists, it was a big deal to appear on the show. This demo tape earned MC Keithy E and crew the right to be on the show and share their talents to the listeners.

You can buy this unique tape here.

Afu-Ra Says DJ Premier Doesn’t Have Time For Him To Record

Afu-Ra is about to drop a new album in February, 2012. Before he wanted to release a new album named “Voice Of A Brooklyn Star” in September ’11 -actually a day before the album digital release- his studio in Switzerland burnt down. Luckily nobody got hurt but he lost most of his album cuts in less than an hour. So his album was delayed to February ’12. He took his bags back to his hood in Brooklyn and started recording new cuts. Meanwhile the album title is changed to “Body Of The Life Force Part 2”. In order to promote his album he released a press release stating the album will be featuring M.O.P., Sadat X, Nine, H. Stax and more. Productions will come from The New DJ Premier, Mike Rone and upcoming talents from around the world.

‘I was thinking of many ideas for this record, the only thing that made sense was represent your hood. Brooklyn I am the the body of life force. This album all the songs I payed close attention to the vocal performance. I wanted to drop spine tingling lyrics and express my self with the voice people deserve.’

Meanwhile everyone wants to hear Afu-Ra on a brand new DJ Premier beat, but it looks like it’s not going to happen for this album.

‘I will always wanna work with him [DJ Premier] but if he does not have the time for me, I can’t keep the people that matter more to wait any longer’. Then The New DJ Premier is Afu-Ra himself. ‘I know what I know, and that is to produce quality classic music. So for all who love the sound of Afu-Ra from now on he will be The New DJ Premier, “Body Of The Life Force 2” combines all of the ingredients Afu-Ra is known for and more.’ The first big cut from the album was posted on DJ Premier Blog some weeks ago. You can now buy it on iTunes.
